This weekend we went down to Puriton in Somerset to see my husband's mother and other relatives.
We stayed at the nearby Crossways Inn (http://www.crosswaysinn.com/), funnily enough somewhere we'd been before for a meal, so we knew it would be good. And it was.
Our room was modern and well appointed. It overlooked the back of the building so was quiet, even when music was playing after 9pm.
It's a family run business and everyone was very friendly and helpful. They serve real ales and it's a pub which is how pubs used to be with no fancy design features and is obviously well frequented by the locals.
Always a good sign. We enjoyed a meal in the evening (food served at lunchtime and 6 - 9pm in the evenings, with a comprehensive menu), and the room price included an excellent breakfast.
In the morning we noticed that, as well as several bar areas, there's a garden outside, complete with play area and trampoline for the children.
