We had a letter through the post yesterday from our local councillors here in Derby to tell us about a proposal to build 400 new houses nearby.  There doesn't seem to be any talk about improving the infrastructure: schools, health centres, shops, transport links however.

One of our local MPs, Pauline Latham, has this to say:

Pauline Latham: Why I shall be opposing latest development in Kedleston Road, Allestree

THIS week I met with representatives from the Catesby Property Group who are proposing a housing development on the land fronting on to Kedleston Road in Allestree. The development is to deliver 350-400 homes, for which planning permission will be lodged with Amber Valley Borough Council in the autumn.
There will be a public consultation by Catesby Property Group in July and residents can also give feedback on the website www.kedlestonroad.co.uk.
I, like many local residents feel that the approval of this application would cause serious problems in the area. The development of the green fields of the Kedleston Estate on which the site sits would set a precedent for other developers. It could also mean that a further application taking the development up to the turning towards Kedleston Hall is likely to follow.
The development is likely to have a detrimental impact on Kedleston Hall. Even if planting helps to screen the housing from the immediate environment, its presence will be felt by the Hall.
